  • GUILTY PLEASURES: Hibiscus Sangria

    Hibiscus Sangria

    1 bottle dry white wine
    2 cups hibiscus tea (already steeped and cooled)
    ½ cup lemon juice
    ½ cup simple syrup
    ¼ orange curacao
    ¼ cup Hendricks gin
    1 orange, sliced
    1 lemon, sliced
    1 liter 7-Up
    thin lemon wheels, for garnish
    orchids, for garnish

    To make the simple syrup, combine 1 part sugar and 1 part water. Stir until completely dissolved. You can also heat on stove-top to dissolve faster.

    Combine all of the ingredients except the 7-Up and garnishes in a large ceramic or glass container and stir well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Serve over ice, fill glasses about half full, then top with 7-Up. Garnish with a floating lemon wheel and an orchid.
    Serves about 8.

    It’s been a busy and exciting month with the preview of several new venues around town. It’s wonderful that they invite the industry to preview new locations so we can see how we can make the space work for different styles of events and show to our clients. It’s also a fun opportunity for all of us to have a cocktail together and catch up!

    THE CENTER

    The Center, a modern three-story venue, is located in the heart of Tempe at Mill and 7th Street. Co-owned by Austin Vickers and Dee Dee Maza, Ciao Baby Catering, and the exclusive caterer for the venue. The location has four unique areas for entertaining: The Studio can hold up to 40; Bistro – 50; the Penthouse – 100. Directly in front of the venue is another great option for a larger party of up to 500 guests if you choose to build a tent or have an open air event.

    THE LEGACY BALLROOM

    The grand opening of the Legacy Ballroom in Paradise Valley brought out many folks in the industry and featured Fabulous Foods, Angelic Grove, Frosting Events, Armitage Ice and PourMasters Bartending Services. The venue is located on a quiet street tucked behind the Greek Orthodox Church. The ballroom can accommodate approximately 250 guests with dance floor and risers and has two walls of garden doors connecting the ballroom to lushly landscaped travertine courtyards. In addition, the venue has a luxurious bridal/green room suite.

    WHITE HOUSE

    The White House Restaurant & Bar on Craftsman Court in Scottsdale is another venue that many of us in the industry had the pleasure of seeing last week. The venue is approximately 3,500 square feet and can be creatively expanded by using the back parking lot. Aventura Catering is the exclusive caterer for the site for private events. Also featured at the event was gorgeous white furniture and glow tables from KOOL Party Rentals and beautiful floral from Avant-Garde Studio.
